When Convoy of Hope rolled into Camden in May, more than a dozen
alumni and student volunteers joined in the community outreach
to some of the city’s most needy. Civic groups and businesses,
including Campbell’s Soup, cooperated with churches to accomplish
the outreach involving 83 organizations and 625 volunteers.
Working with Pastor Harold Sutton of Life Assembly, Nicole
Massey Summers ’02 was assistant coordinator for
the effort that served nearly 3,600 people with free groceries,
medical services, job referrals, haircuts, children’s amusements
and more. “I wanted to be a blessing to the less fortunate,
but I really didn’t know if it was going to work,” she
said.
“But starting with nothing, everything came about. It was awesome.
Now we’re continuing the project, going to visit people to
fix things for them and look after them so they know we care.”
