Martinez makes
a difference
oraida
Martinez 81, the artist and designer known for her unique
painting style which she calls Verdadism, has been honored by La
Tribuna Newspaper of New Jersey and New York as one of New Jerseys
distinguished women of 1996.
Verdadism is the hybrid word Martinez derived from combining the
Spanish word for truth and the English word for theory to describe
her art. Its hard-edge abstraction with social commentary,
she says. In order to be happy, Ihave to paint. [My paintings]
embody what I feel. [Through them] I try to make change, open peoples
minds.
She was recognized for her socially-conscious philosophy and the
difference that she is making toward promoting tolerance, understanding
and respect for all people.
Martinez runs her own graphic design firm and gallery in Moorestown.
Rowan Magazine featured Soraida Martinez and her art in the
fall 1995 issue.
