he
American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers (ASCAP) has
honored Sean Heim 93 for making beautiful music. The
ASCAP presented Heim, an adjunct member of the Fine & Performing
Arts faculty, with the Rudolf Nissam Award for Songs from
the Jade Flute earlier this year.
The award honors excellence in large-scale orchestral composition
that requires a conductor. Three judges unanimously selected Heim
from more than 200 submissions from around the world competing for
the prize.
Songs from the Jade Flute is a composition for soprano
and orchestra based on three poems by Chinese poet Li Po published
in a book called The Jade Flute.
The ASCAP also presented Heim with a 1999-2000 Standard Award, given
yearly for individuals whose works are performed primarily in academic
settings.
